Proof of concept

Order and stock support agent

An online retailer's support inbox is dominated by where is my order, is this back in stock, and can I change the delivery address. Each answer is quick, but every one requires a person to open two systems, and the volume peaks exactly when the team is smallest.

Product screens being assembled from modular blocks

What we built

  • An agent that answers order status, stock and delivery questions from the live order and inventory systems rather than a static article
  • Identity checks before anything account specific is revealed
  • Address and delivery changes made directly where the order stage still allows it
  • Returns started in the conversation with the label issued at the end of it
  • Escalation to a human for anything about damage, refunds or complaints, with the full thread carried across

What it showed

The proof of concept resolved the routine order and stock questions inside the conversation, and passed everything sensitive to a person with the account history already gathered.

What a live engagement needs

A live version needs read access to orders and inventory, the rules on what may be changed after dispatch, and agreement on what the agent must never handle alone.
