Exam hall identity and attendance

Verifying identity at an examination hall is done by eye against a printed list. With hundreds of candidates per session it is slow, the queue builds outside the door, and impersonation is caught only when an invigilator happens to notice. Attendance sheets are then re entered into the examination system afterwards.

What we built

  • Admit card barcode scanning that brings up the candidate record on the invigilator's tablet
  • Face match against the enrolled photograph with a liveness check, so a photograph of a photograph does not pass
  • Attendance marked digitally at the point of verification, signed by both invigilator and candidate
  • Answer booklet number captured and tied to the candidate before the paper starts
  • Mismatches and tampered admit cards flagged for the invigilator rather than acted on automatically
  • A control room view showing hall by hall progress while the session is running

What it showed

The proof of concept took verification from a minute or two of manual checking down to a few seconds per candidate, kept a clean digital attendance record with no re entry afterwards, and surfaced mismatches to a human instead of blocking anyone by itself.

What a live engagement needs

A live rollout needs the enrolled photograph set, a written policy on what happens when a match fails, a manual override path that always exists, and agreement on how long biometric data is retained and who may see it.
